Security Baron is an independent review site. We may earn money when you click on links on our website. View Disclosures After reviewing the Netatmo Welcome Indoor Camera, I’m more than excited to see how their latest outdoor camera, the Netatmo Presence, works. With its integrated floodlight, it looks a lot more intense and industrial than any other outdoor security camera I’ve ever reviewed, but at $300, I’m hoping the features go above and beyond of what I usually expect from a security camera. Is the Netatmo Presence worth its hefty price-tag, or should you run away as quickly as a robber would when the floodlight turns on? In this review, I’m diving deep into the technical specifications of the Netatmo Presence, plus my experience installing and using it. Of course, I’ll be comparing it to Security Baron’s Necessary Features, and comparing it to some top outdoor cameras. We have a ton to go over, so let’s get started! With HZO Protection, the Netatmo Presence is the most durable outdoor camera I’ve ever reviewed, with person detection, 1080p HD video, and free cloud and local storage.  From the Amazon page, it’s pretty clear that the Netatmo Presence is not your typi...

Super-Protective Gloves: Hammer-proof, Blade-proof and Fireproof

From a Chilean company called ATIKS comes these Mark VIII safety gloves, which aim to allow dexterity while protecting the fingers from grievous injury. Take a look at what they can do: It’s obvious they’re targeting the construction industry. What’s not obvious is if the gloves are actually in production or where they are available. The brand name appears to be ReSafe but at press time, their website was down. Those of you looking to pick up work gloves with similar functionality might want to check out Schmitz Mittz. While they don’t appear to offer the hammer protection on the fingertips, they do offer it over the knuckles and the gloves are both cut-proof and flame-proof: Schmitz Mittz were originally designed for first-responders rescuing people in crushed vehicles, and they’re surprisingly affordable, running from $44.95 up to $69.95 for the top-of-the-line gloves seen in the video. Along with its motorsport history and fast road cars, Jaguar has always been known for its

Along with its motorsport history and fast road cars, Jaguar has always been known for its sexy and groundbreaking designs, such as the I-Pace and F-Type. Needless to say, the UK automaker, which has fallen on some hard financial times lately, has never been too keen to reveal its design secrets. Until now, that is. Jaguar has just announced that it has not only opened a new and larger design studio in Gaydon, England next to that of its sister brand Land Rover, but also some inner workings details and photos about its award-winning design process. There are six stages to a new Jaguar’s design with both exterior and interior teams collaborating from start to finish. These stages are as follows in this order: Sketching, Clay Sculpting, Digitalization, Color and Materials, Design Technical, and Model Manufacture. The first two stages actually begin about four years the vehicle’s reveal. What’s interesting is that each full-size clay model is not 100 percent clay, but rather comprises of an aluminum chassis and foam core. There’s also 90 mm of pure clay body. The only element that is actually real, meaning production-ready, are the wheels. Each clay model is...

Border Report Tour: 5 things we’ve learned about the border wall

ALPINE, Texas — Through seven days of our BorderReport.com Tour, we’ve been able to document the border wall in California, Arizona, New Mexico and portions of West Texas. While there are spots where an imposing 30-foot wall serves as a deterrent for illegal immigrants, there are other places that could be easily crossed if not for Border Patrol enforcing the area. You’ll find different materials being used just about everywhere. While some wall featured massive steel beams, other portions of the wall could best be described as fencing. You’ll see steel connected by mesh with razor wire lining the top. The types of wall you’ll see even varies within a state. During our drive through California, we saw at least four different variations of border wall and fencing. As we drove through the state, we were able to confirm what mapping from RevealNews.org and the Center for Investigative Reporting showed: there’s a lot of pedestrian fencing in California. We started our trip in San Diego where President Trump visited in mid-September to tout new border wall construction that replaced an easily comprised portion of fencing built in the 1990s. The 14 miles of wall was originally propose...

Wemo WiFi Smart Light Switch 3-Way review: One of the best ways to render a three-way circuit smart

Wemo has handily solved a common complaint lodged against smart light switches: Many don’t support three-way circuits, and the ones that do typically require the presence of a companion switch at the other location(s) controlling the circuit, thus increasing the cost and the complexity of any installation. The Wemo WiFi Smart Light Switch 3-Way doesn’t, and it can also be used as a single-pole switch. This new switch looks identical to Wemo’s older single-pole switch, so it will blend right in if you have that device installed elsewhere in your home. The only difference is on the backside of the unit, where the additional wiring required for a three-way installation snakes out. This extra wiring is the only issue I had with the switch. Because the Wemo uses pigtails (versus backstabs) to connect to your in-wall wiring, you’ll need five wire nuts (included with the kit) to connect everything together. That’s a lot of hardware to jam into the typical junction box, although I was lucky to be installing my review unit to one side of a two-gang box, so I had a little extra room to work with. Can’t train the kides to turn off the lights when they’re not needed? The Wemo app can do it ...

Registered in England and Wales. Number 8860726. Motors can be wired delta or wye. Which arrangement do you choose, and how do you do it? For purposes of making the connection, it doesn’t matter to the installer if the motor is delta-wound or wye-wound. The delta or wye connection is about the desired motor starting arrangement, not how the motor is wound. Ideally, you will be connecting motors per an installation drawing. In that case, it’s a matter of correctly identifying the motor leads by number and connecting them per the drawing. Don’t try to “wing it” when replacing a motor, working with OEM equipment, or installing a motor when such drawings have been provided. But there’s a catch. We’ll get to that in a moment. What if you don’t have drawings? What if the customer (the production department if you’re in maintenance) just wants a motor installed and the wiring is up to you? Your first task is to identify how many leads the motor has. Typically, the motor will be a 6-lead or...
